350.ORG IN VICTORIA - 10.10.10. GLOBAL WORK PARTY
Plant a Tree at Woodwynn Farms!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, September 24th, 2010

Victoria BC – local architect Christine Lintott and Woodwynn Farms founder Richard LeBlanc have just announced plans for a tree-planting work party on October 10th, 2010 (10/10/10), from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm - in association with the 350.org Global Work Party being orchestrated worldwide on that date.

Lintott and her team are looking for donors to raise funds for 350 fruit and nut trees, and volunteers to help plant them at Woodwynn on 10/10/10. They’re sending out a call to action with a new website, Facebook group, and Twitter page, to help spread the word.

“This is going to be an exciting, empowering, and fun experience for all involved,” says Lintott. “The initiative will bring our community together, acknowledging our role in climate change– while also helping to raise the awareness of broader social issues in our own backyard by partnering with Woodwynn.”

Woodwynn is a 193 acre organic farm and therapeutic community for the homeless, offering an opportunity to change people’s lives with educational and work programs based on responsibility, independence, and the principles of peer-to-peer help.

350.org is an international movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. The mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of climate change – to create a new sense of urgency – and possibility – for our planet. Planting 350 trees at Woodwynn is a local way to do just that!

“This is our way of giving back to the community, and the environment,” says Lintott. “Your donation will go towards food producing trees, soil preparation, and irrigation installation. The average overall cost of each tree works out to be about $50.”

People are invited to visit the website for more information, to make a donation, and to sign up for the tree-planting event. Those on Facebook and Twitter can follow along and receive the latest updates.

“Join in the community on 10/10/10 to plant a few trees and feel really good about what you’ve accomplished in one day. Groups and children are encouraged to participate!”
